September Newsletter: Artfest Light Night Spectacular! Stan Tracey, Sara Colman, Maylight, Jim Bashford Quintet

Here at Birmingham Jazz September is always an eagerly anticipated time as it brings the start of our Autumn programme which is full of established legends and rising stars. This year follows the trend with Stan Tracey's Hexad at CBSO Centre on Saturday 20th September at 8pm.His stellar sextet features Clark Tracey on drums, Andy Cleyndert on bass, Mark Armstrong on Trumpet and Simon Allen and Mornington Lockett on saxes . Other highlights this month include Sara Colman's album launch at The Glee Club on Thursday 25th September,8pm and the free Artsfest Late Night Light Night spectacular at Town Hall Birmingham on Friday 12th September.

This one-off Artfest special showcases Soweto Kinch alongside local bands The Sub Ensemble and new band Maylight featuring Lizzy Parks. The event is part of a light installation spectacular outisde the Town Hall and it's all free so please come along after 9pm.

Saturday 20th September

Fresh from winning a 2008 BBC Performing Arts Fund Urban Music Bursary saxophonist Mary Wakelam leads this new group of  contemporary jazz and hip hop featuring Lizzy Parks on vocals, Chris Read on Turntables,Joe Egan on Trumpet, Rob Barron on Keyboards, Colin Somervell on Bass and Jim Bashford on Drums.
